Thing of the month club

Dec 10, 2007 | Personal, Web Fun

In January 2006, Tina and I made the decision to try semi-retirement. We wouldn’t join a bridge club and play Bingo, but we would give up the security of a full time job and paycheck. We joined AARP, canceled many of our monthly expenses, bought a decent camera and created a web site to document our experiences as we entered this new phase of our lives together. We moved closer to Marcel, his wife and Zander (our first grand child). I acquired several web maintenance clients to keep me busy and provide lunch money.

Documenting our adventures includes the search for a better way to document and update our reports. I created a static web site, opened a Picasa image gallery and tried Blogger software. I quickly found that the static home page goes stale quickly, and the images and news are at 2 different URL’s (locations) which should confuse the best of site visitors. After some research (translated: what are my 2 sons using?), I installed WordPress.

I found and tried several Themes, moved all of my existing ‘blogs’ from Blogspot.com and entered my first posts. I can also allow others (my wife for starters) to add their own posts. Now I just need to see how to organize all of my random thoughts and find out if they offer a good way to display photography.

Hope you enjoy this next piece of my own evolution as I explore cycling, birding, photography and what it means to be 54 in 2008.
